Here's my collection of 70 of the most frequently used French verbs, including a selection of important irregular ones and a few reflexive verbs for good measure. Complete with conjugation in 16 different tenses/cases, plus a few extras like imperatives and participes. All answers are type answers, but of course you can change that to your liking.
This is what it looks like on mobile:
Folder Structure:
I arranged them in four seperate subdecks or levels with decreasing frequency / increasing difficulty. It is highly recommended to start with level 1 (Présent, Imparfait, Passé Composé & Futur Simple) and work your way down from there. That means level 4 contains the more obscure tenses in French, so you definitely don't want to start with these.
Languages:
Infinitive is default in English, but I also added infinitives in:
German, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Greek, Polish, Portuguese, Russian & Swedish.
Here's how you change it to your language:
- Open the card template editing window ("Cards" or "Ctrl+L" in the card browser or after selecting "Edit" while viewing a card)
- The very first line of the code reads "{{English}}". This is what defines the infinitive ouptput on your card.
- Just switch "{{English}}" with your language of choice in the first line of the front and back card templates. For example, "{{English}}" should be "{{Spanish}}" if you want infintives displayed in Spanish etc.
- Make sure you do it for both, the front and the back card!
One important tip to get started:
Anki may not import the order in which the cards are supposed to be shown. To make sure, you have all cards in order:
- Open the card browser
- Select all cards within this deck
- Select "Reposition" (Ctrl+Shift+S) and hit "OK"
Now the "due"-order of all cards should be sorted by their ID. That means you will go through this deck one verb at a time.
Audio
TTS (text to speech) audio output requires Anki 2.1.20 or AnkiMobile 2.0.56. If it doesn't work, make sure to have a French language pack installed on your device, that should do the trick:
Windows:
Adding French Audio:
Settings → Time & Language → Speech Recognition → Add Voices → French
iOS:
Choosing a French voice:
Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices → French
Make sure you have the sound switch turned on. ;-)
Android:
Enable French audio:
In the Anki app:
Settings → Advanced → Check "Text to speech"
Managing audio output:
General: Settings → System → Language & input → Text to speech output
Samsung: Settings → General management → Language & input → Text-to-speech output
Huawei: Settings → Accessibility features → Accessibility → Text-to-speech output
Xiaomi: Settings → Additional settings → Accessibility → Text-to-speech output
If you use a different device, open Android settings and enter "text-to-speech" in the search to locate the relevant section.
Here, if you tap on the "i" next to "Google Text-to-speech engine", you have the option to install a local French voice pack under "Install voice data". This gives you audio output when you review cards offline.
I am aware that TTS will now read notes in other decks that you have in your collection in full. In that case you will have to switch TTS on and off again, sorry. My current code is a workaround of the Android app not supporting Anki's native TTS, but hopefully this will be implemented soon by the developers. I tried to keep this deck's disk profile low by not cluttering it with mp3s, so I'm afraid Ankidroid users have to bite this bullet for the time being.
