Back It the 19th century prison was seen as an alternative to transportation. Between the 1800 and 1840, crime had risen from 5000 to 20000. This was because of the decline of the bloody code and discovery of gold in Austrslia meant that transportation was not a deterrent.

Back Jews killed Tsar Alexander II in 1881. This caused riots and 200,000 jews entered the UK. Jewish buisnesses ran on the sweatshop model which was illegal. Jewish immigrants were quick to find employment from other Jews for low wages and hours which angered the locals
