Anatomy Lab Unit 10 - Sensory Organs: Eye and Ear UVU
Sample Data
Front
Name this part of the eye. Is the lateral straight muscle. Contraction of
this muscle directs the visual axis laterally. The belly of this muscle covers
the insertion of the inferior oblique muscle.
Back
Lateral rectus muscleOrigin: lateral portion of the common tendinous ring.
Insertion: lateral part of sclera anterior to the equator of
the eyeball.
Action: directs visual axis laterally.
Front
Name this part of the ear. Occupies the osseous labyrinth, has the same general shape,
but is somewhat smaller. In most areas it is separated from the osseous
labyrinth by a perilymph-filled space, but in some locations it makes direct
contact with and fuses to the inner aspect of the osseous labyrinth. The
membranous labyrinth is divided into three major portions: a coiled part termed
the cochlear duct, two dilations termed utricle and saccule, and three
semicircular ducts. These spaces are filled with endolymph. Everything in blue.
Back
Membranous labyrinth
Front
Name this part of the eye. Is an oval area near the posterior pole of the eyeball a few
millimeters lateral from the attachment of the optic nerve. It is about three
by five mm in diameter. Several of the retinal layers are absent near the
center of the macula and there are no blood vessels covering this depression.
