Back - For many years the USA had been flying splay planes over the USSR - It started in 1950. Truman didn’t approve and banned it. (Violated Soviet air space )- 1956 flights Egan again with president Eisenhower. (U2 spy planes)- Khrushchev knew about the flights but had no proof. ‘Spat in the face of soviet people - 1960 anti-aircraft missiles shot down a U2 plane. - Pilot Gary powers, Parachuted to safety and was put on trial.- Us originally claimed it was a weather plane but were proved wrong
