625 Word German Deck / Picture Words & Minimal Pairs

Language/German
Hi. This is a deck I created for refugees coming to Germany. Of course, it can be used by anyone. To the volunteers, please spread this deck among the refugee shelters. Here is a instruction to get Anki: http://fluent-forever.com/chapter2/#.ViaOUH7hC00 INTRO Refugees speak different languages, so I wanted to make a deck that doesn't rely on text. This deck mainly works with images and speech (some basic German is thrown in sometimes). This way even analphabets can learn German. What is in this deck? 1. Minimal Pairs These cards will help the learner to distinguish sounds in the German language. Two words that are only different by one letter are shown while an audio file is played. You have to guess which word was played. I recommend to do these exercises first, so that the ears can adapt to hearing German. This is essential for a clean pronounciation and investing time here is worth it. Later mistakes are hard to be corrected. I focused on the basic sounds. I consider making a second sub-deck with long and short vowels. 2. Picture Words Here are about 500 words shown as pictures. I used a vocabulary list provided by Fluent Forever. These were words that are know and easy to visualize. For some words I haven't found an image. I didn't want to confuse the learner so I just left these words out. The words include: yes & no, directions (over, next to, etc), weekdays, time (afternoon, hour, etc), pronouns, numbers, family members and some random words. How to use it? If you only see the word: 1. Speak the word out loud. 2. Guess the gender of the word. 3. Guess the meaning of the word. 4. Only after 1.-3. look at the back of the card. 5. If it was too easy, click on the right button. If your answer was correct, but took some time, click on the middle. Otherwise, click on the left. If you see only the image: 1. Guess the word, then the gender, then pronounce it. 2. Repeat as above.
