Front What is a concentration cell?
Back If the concentrations of the ions in 1 of the compartments is not 1 molal, half cell potential is either higher or lower than E°. Thus you can use the same substance in both compartments but at different concentrations to produce electricity. Emf here = difference between 2 E potentials. This is called a concentration cell. To determine direction of electron flow all same rules used. E.g cathodic compartment Is the one with the largest positive (or smallest negative) E.

Front What is the electromotive force ?
Back The voltage difference between the two electrodes If the concs of all ions involved is 1 molal;Emf = n • E°(reduction) - m •E°(oxidation) Where n and m are the stoichiometric factors by which each half reaction needs to be multiplied to yield a balanced overall reaction. LEO IS A GERC

Front What is a galvanic cell?
Back Something which uses a spontaneous redox reaction to produce electricity. E.g. battery.
