American English Pronunciation IPA

Teach yourself the sounds used in General American English (often called "broadcaster English"), and their corresponding IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet) symbols with Anki.

The deck covers only the vowels and consonants as presented in Lisa Mojsin's "Mastering the American Accent" book, starting with all the vowel sounds, and then the consonants: voiceless and voiced, in this order.

The deck contains both descriptions, audio and video clips for the vowels and consonants, and audio clips of words.

• Instead of /y/ use /j/, which is the correct sound and symbol in words like yeah and use for example.
• Use the more phonetically accurate /ə˞/ instead of /ər/.
• Use the more phonetically accurate /ɹ/ for that r sound in words like "store".
