Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course with vocabulary – revised

Revamped version of the great Kodansha deck: new design, deduplicated and amended content. So the same note holds true: This deck is meant to be used together with the Kodansha Kanji Learner's Course book (KLC). So, if you don't own the book yet, buy it to support the author. (You need the book anyway to get the character mnemonics and seriously helpful appendixes – esp. the 6th, "Table of Grapheme Meanings".) If you end up liking this deck, please vote. Two of the three downvotes so far were by geniuses too lazy to read this description. Needs at least Anki 2.1.36 (2021+)! Older versions will not recognize the diagrams as used and suggest them for deletion. [They are used as object tags rather than img ones. This also the reason why AnkiWeb erroneously doesn't count them. They are very much present.] Top: Back, Anki 2.1.54, night theme The kanji there is centered in both directions as normally you have a wide enough window with enough free space. Explanation:

• no touch/mouse (default) → nothing extra shown
• pointer on headwords/readings → vocab shown
• pointer on diagram → stroke numbers shown

Bottom: Front (Recognition), AnkiDroid 2.15, default theme Shows the non-default (see below) where the kanji is moved to the bottom so as to fill the (not always) free space there rather than (always) be covered by text given typically narrow screens.

• Vocab is actually only shown on hovering (mobile: clicking) the rows with the kanji readings. To instead have it always shown, open the card type editor, select "Styling", and remove the three CSS rules near the top as indicated by the first comment there.
• To move the large background kanji to the bottom on mobile: Card type editor, "Styling", uncomment the small section near the top as indicated by the second comment there.
• Font for large kanji on the recognition front (in order of priority): Yu Kyokasyo (recommended; macOS Sierra onwards), UD Digi KyoKasho (Windows 10, you may have to add Japanese as [input] language for it to be installed), Kozuka Mincho Pr6N (e.g. in Acrobat Reader DC). Otherwise fallback to the system's font (on Android: Noto). Its fontsize is set to 85% of the smaller window dimension. This works properly starting with Anki 2.1 / Android 5+ (otherwise it's a fixed 433px). Also, note that this is affected by AnkiDroid's zoom options, if you have any set.
• Clicking on the kana reading of the first entry opens the character's mnemonics entry on Reinaert Albrecht's site (ex.) in your browser. Clicking on keywords opens the Japanese section of the character's Wiktionary entry (eg.).
• To enable the kanji to be shown once more in large below the keywords (not seen in the screenshots) on the three relevant sides: In the card type editor, delete the comment tag pairs (<!-- and -->) surrounding the lines with the respective additional {{Kanji}}.

Changes from the original deck: Important for content:

1. Do NOT recreate the diagrams with Kanji Colorizer! This deck's files have been edited and display differently.
2. Added the minor keywords from the book.
3. Added words (from the Kodansha Kanji's Learner Dictionary), esp. when examples for readings were missing. Note: I largely didn't care about unknown kanji, seeing you can just ignore them until you learn them sooner or later anyway. Original entries were not removed. Bear in mind that this is not a vocab deck, the words merely serve to elaborate on the kanji. If the content is too much for you, I suggest removing some of the vocab fields in the template editor.
4. Units like 尺: rather than having their ON also in their names (defeating the purpose of recall), they're now "30.3 cm UNIT" etc.
5. Occasionally amended the description (again taken from KKLD), eg. for the negation kanji like 無 as extra line "(nonexistence or lack)".
6. Occasionally added a missing reading when other dictionaries (sometimes KKLD itself) listed it as common.
7. Occasionally the kanji meanings in the KLC app were different from those in the printed book. I then switched to the former, as I assume it's more recent.
8. Some amended vocab meanings (yet again, KKLD).

More generally:

1. redesign, CSS/HTML cleanup & removed superfluous fields I guess the latter is why this deck – despite actually containing more content – is less than half the filesize of the original.
2. Unified a vocab word's separate kanji/reading fields into a single furigana field. Its readings — in this deck — were manually inserted. The Japanese Support addon's auto-furigana (used instead in another deck derived from an old version of this one) cannot work for ambiguous ones and leads to partially false ones.
3. Split ambiguous meanings (eg. "止める [2]" into two vocab "止める¹ & 止める²).
4. Fixed a bunch of minor typos.
5. Linebreaks for meanings (esp. at different meanings, ie. those delimited by ";") and smaller font size for minor description parts
6. Compressed a bunch of readings/meanings, eg. "うえ ・ -うえ" into "(-)うえ".
7. For four kanji, added popular alternatives as notes to first entry where they differ from the official forms.
8. Regenerated diagrams from the latest KanjiVG data.
9. Removed duplicated vocabulary (often given twice as "normal" and "key" ones).
10. Deduplicated & unified the ON lines (if it exists, the main one now appears first in a different color).

Note: While there is an annotation field, it's empty since including the KLC stories would violate copyright. You have to fill it yourself (it will then be shown when hovering over the number at the bottom right). I only left it in so you don't have to alter the template yourself in any case. Unfortunately AnkiWeb unconditionally includes my progress instead of resetting the ordering on export. So to ensure the order is right, do on Anki Desktop (picture tutorial: same procedure for the old deck):

1. Open the to Card Browser (B)
2. Select the deck's entry on the left
3. Select a card, click on "Fields…", "1: id", "Sort by this field in the browser" (maybe undo this afterwards). Alternatively, install Advanced Browser and sort by creation date.
4. Check that the sort field order in the leftmost column is correct (1,2,… from top down. Two for each since it's two cards. If not, click on the column header to sort accordingly.)
5. Press Ctrl-a to select all the deck's cards
6. Press Ctrl-Shift-s to open the Reposition dialog
7. → OK
