Front What are the dis/advantages of biological heart valves?
Back adv. = unlike mechanical heart valves, they do not need anticlotting drugs to be taken, as they don't increase the risk of clotting. disadv. = they last less than mechanical heart valves, and may need to be replaced.
Front Describe how the kidney adjusts the levels of molecules in the blood.
Back 1. Blood enters the kidney through an artery, and passes into capillaries.2. Small molecules are filtered out of the blood in these capillaries. These are glucose, urea, ions, and water. These substances are passed into tubes in the kindey. 3. ALL of the glucose in the kindey tubes are passed back into the blood, along with some of the ions and some of the water, are reabsorbed back into the blood (but not all). 4. Then, the excess water, ions, and the urea are passed out of the kindey tubes and released as urine, into the bladder. The filtered blood leaves the kidneys through veins, back into the main bloodstream.
Front What did Mendel discover, from his experiments?
Back That characteristics are not blended during inheritance (as was commonly believed), but instead were determined by what he called "inheritance units".
