What is this?
This is my machine translation of Assimil's advanced Spanish course into English. It was originally called Espagnol Perfeccionement, was written for French speakers, and was published in 2015. It was designed for intermediate-to-advanced students.
Assimil told me they have no intentions of translating their advanced Spanish course from French into English, so I translated it myself. On each card, the translation from DeepL is on top. The translation from Google is on the bottom.
For
some cards with complicated slang, my girlfriend, a Peruvian biologist with a C2 English cert, helped me to translate the sentences into English by hand.
What is the difference between deck 1 and 2?
Deck 1 contains the main lessons. Deck 2 contains the exercises.
Why did you do this?
I wanted to learn Spanish better. The 1980s version of Using Spanish for English speakers is out of print and terrible. The quality of these lessons is much higher, in my view.
Did this deck help you?
These lessons helped me dramatically increase my listening comprehension. I am now able to watch many native Spanish television shows with 90-95% understanding. I also spoke each sentence aloud every time it came up. This improved my accent to the point that many native speakers assume I know much more of their mother tongue than I really do (a high quality problem).
