Reddit Aahhanthony's Russian Deck
When I decided to finally study Russian back in May, I found the lack of shared Russian decks (for beginners) really shocking. For almost two months, I worked off the two seemingly best decks that were shared - one frequency list and another containing half the vocab in the penguin book. I stopped using them way before finishing them because of how unsatisfied I was with them. As a result, I started to keep my own deck. I put a lot of time and effort into it over the summer and would love to share it with you guys. I found this reddit community to really keep me motivated with the good insight into the language, random pictures of russian (like a mcdonalds receipt), ideas on where to look on the web for help, etc. I hope you guys like it and please point out any mistakes that may have been made.
If you are interested in what this deck contains, I'll speak a bit about how I collected my words. I started with the online vocabulary lists from the online textbook, Между нами. It skips some words and sentences that I knew already, but for the most part, you will be getting a years worth of college Russian right off the bat with this deck. Afterwards, I drift off into my own interests. I started by looking up vocabulary lists of things I wanted to know more vocabulary one - emotions, weather, geography, instruments, etc. There are some really complex sentences in here that challenged me a bit. Around this time, I wrote a couple paragraphs about myself in Russian and had a friend correct them (so you'll see random sentences about the gym, reading, etc). Afterwards, I just gathered words wherever I saw them from my online media.
If you are interested in that, I can highly suggest to you guys what I found the most beneficial. I began, of course, with Duolingo, but you won't see many words intentionally put from there into this deck ( i got very tired with duolingo, and found keeping my own deck to have taught me more). I found Real Russian Club to be absolutely fantastic in her lessons. I listened to her from zero to fluency playlist two through (as background to my vocab practice the second time). I also listened to Russian Progress and Be Fluent In Russian in order to get an idea on how people hold short talks on random topics. I also found that Antonia Romaker and Russian Grammar really helped even out my knowledge of how cases/grammar works. I also put in vocabulary from some of my favorite Russian songs (Гипнозы, Равнодушие, Волнует меня, От луны до марса, Без тебя я не я, Урод). I also found youtube had a lot of good videos in Russian. I'm currently watching Кухня. I pulled a good bit of vocab from that show and random interviews (like this one of FavLav doing a song imitating Tatu. I got a lot of vocab from that entire episode because i loved it so much). I also pulled a lot of vocabulary from Instagram accounts like, Learn_Russian_Words, Russianpod101, Simple_Russian_Language, Learn_Russian_.
