A high quality list of 1013 Portuguese nouns, with article for gender ("o" / "a"), and a concise, unique English translation on the other side. Text only, no audio.
This list has been checked using the definitive
Dicionario Porto Editora, and verified by a native Portuguese person, who rather conveniently happens to be an editor. European Portuguese spelling is used in the few cases where there is a difference with Brazilian.
This list is based on the shared deck, "
Portuguese to English Top 1000 Verbs! Aww yeah!!!" (Despite the excited name, it's actually a list of nouns!)
Thanks to the provider of that list, which provided a great starting point. However, that list had many issues, which I've done my best to sort.
Changes included:
- added an article to every word on the Portuguese side, to indicate gender ("o" ou "a")
- added the article "the" on the English side, for consistency with the other side, and to make it clear when committing to memory that you're learning a noun, as oppose to an adjective or verb
- added the words for females
e.g. doutor -> o doutor, a doutora (because women can be doctors too :) )
- removed the number that preceded every word in the original list
- made every card unique, with definitions as precise yet concise as possible for common usages, while distinguishing words of similar meaning
- a number of other corrections and improvements
- added a few more useful words
Tips
I highly recommend the deck, "
Portuguese > English – Phrase Book,European Portuguese audio", complete with European Portuguese audio.
That list already includes many nouns, such as months of the year, and days of the week, which I have therefore not added to this list.

I've found these lists, and the Anki software, an amazing and invaluable learning tool – so thanks to all contributors, may you find use in this too.
Enjoy!
