This deck contains vocabulary from the modern Hebrew textbook
Modern Hebrew for Beginners by Esther Raizen. It is primarily intended for students in a first-semester course using this textbook, but the deck is useful for anyone trying to learn basic Hebrew vocabulary.
Each card contains:
Hebrew: Unvoweled Hebrew term.
Hebrew-voweled: Voweled Hebrew term.
Gloss: English gloss (translation).
Image: Image representation of term. All images are free under CC license.
Audio: Audio of the Hebrew term, recorded using TTS (OS X Speech Synthesis—Carmit voice at 140wpm).
Image Source: URL of where the image was found.
Sort Number: A unique ID number corresponding to the order in which vocabulary words are listed in the textbook.
Tags: All notes are tagged with the chapter and vocabulary set in the textbook. For example, a word that appears in א1 and ב3 will contain two tags: "a1" and "b3".
In addition, the cards have been customized to use the following optional fields when present:
Additional: Can be used for additional information, such as part of speech, verb paradigm, etc.
Context1 and Context2: Can be used for an example of the word used in context (in Hebrew). All context fields are hidden by default and will only be shown if the red context button at the bottom of each card is pressed. This button only appears if there is something in the "Context1" field.
Context1-gloss and Context2-gloss: Translations of the fields "Context1" and "Context2".
The notes are shown through two different cards:
Hebrew > Gloss: Front shows "Hebrew" and "Hebrew-voweled" fields, and "Audio" is played. Back reveals "Image", "Gloss", "Additional", and "Context" fields.
Gloss > Hebrew: Front shows "Image", "Gloss", "Additional", and "Context" fields, while it asks for input of "Hebrew" field. Back plays "Audio", and it reveals "Hebrew" and "Hebrew-voweled" fields.
Note that these cards have been highly customized with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They are designed to be pedagogically effective and aesthetically pleasing. Training videos on their use and the second language acquisition theory behind this deck is coming soon.
