Great Works of Art (expanded, v3.0)

History
I've been very slowly working on amending and expanding the "Great Works of Art" deck (original author unknown, modified and reuploaded by Glutanimate, 2017). Overview of changes by field: Artwork: Added HD images for non copyrighted works. For other images, replaced them as required (to remove excessive saturation/colour correction) Title: Corrected artwork titles in the following priority order: Title found on museum website > title found in digital textbook > title found on Smarthistory or wikipedia > original title in deck Subtitle/alternate titles: Added where applicable Date: Adjusted following same parameters as "Title" field Period/Movement: This is the only field that I have not touched - so take it with a grain of salt. I plan on fixing this one in a future update. Medium: Adjusted following same parameters as "Title" field Nationality: Adjusted following same parameters as "Title" field Added fields: Image source: provides url to image used in each card Image copyright information: provides copyright information for each image Permanent Location: Provides the permanent location for each work of art (where available) Instructive Link: Provides a link to a video/website that discusses the piece of art in question (where available). I primarily used Smarthistory here, but sometimes used a YouTube video or a video made by the museum/gallery that holds the piece. Gallery/Museum Link: Link to the url of the museum or gallery for the piece of art in question Title in original language: Shows title in original language - I stopped filling this one part way through the process and will likely remove it completely in the next update. Other changes: I have added about 100 new works of art I have temporarily removed the "movement/period" cards from the deck. The field remains but I have not edited it so can't be certain on accuracy. Other notes: 1- I've done my best to follow copyright law, but I'm not an expert. Any errors, please let me know and I will amend them. Copyrighted images are intended to be used under fair use, for educational, non commercial, non profit purposes. 2- It is possible in my many corrections, I have introduced errors. If you catch any, please let me know. 3- Some fields are quite complicated to accurately complete. For example - many artists have multiple nationalities, or their nationality no longer exists. For example - Peter Paul Rubens was born in a member state of the HRE, but lived most of his life in the Southern Netherlands, which was part of Spain at the time. It is now modern day Belgium. So was he German, Dutch, Belgian, Spanish, or Flemish? I have him listed as Flemish, because that's what he is generally accepted to be, but this was just an example - other cases are present. Likewise, many paintings do not have English names, and some translations are not direct nor necessarily follow the intended meaning in the native language. 4- Photo resolution is not uniform - because of different dimensions of paintings, best available images I could find, and copyright limitations. If you want to set a specific resolution, you can add the following: img { width: auto; height: auto; max-width: *Desired resolution here*px; max-height: *Desired resolution here*px; } Future updates: - Add more paintings - Fix period/movement field - Make card design more attractive

Artwork
Artist Édouard Manet
Title Olympia
Subtitle/Alternate Titles
Title in Original Language
Date 1863
Period/Movement Realism, Impressionism
Medium Oil on canvas
Nationality French
Note Olympia caused shock and astonishment when it was first exhibited at the 1865 Paris Salon. What shocked contemporary audiences was not the nudity, nor even the presence of her fully clothed maid, but her confrontational gaze and a number of details identifying her as a demi-mondaine or prostitute. These include the orchid in her hair, her bracelet, pearl earrings and the oriental shawl on which she lies, symbols of wealth and sensuality. The black ribbon around her neck, in stark contrast with her pale flesh, and her cast-off slipper underline the voluptuous atmosphere. "Olympia" was a name associated with prostitutes in 1860s Paris.
