Front US response to cuban revolution - truman doctrine
Back - Bay of pigs invasion: just after kennedy became president, he approved a plan to invade cuba to overthrow castro and communism. The CIA landed over 1000 cuban exiles on the bay of pigs, in southern cuba, with hopes of starting an anti-communist movement. This fails, as at the last moment kennedy pulls the US air force out of the coup d'etat, meaning the rebels had little to no support - all were captured or killed, and defeated easily by the heavily armed cuban troops.
Front US response to cuban revolution - trade
Back trade embargo imposed: all american purchases of sugar and tobacco was halted as was the selling of oil and other essentials, but this backfired on the US. The cubans now had to look elsewhere for a sugar market and oil imports, turning to the USSR, who also supplied them with weapons
Front Role of the media
Back events ike the my lai massacre were filmed and reported back to the press. This made US civilians question the war.
