Remembering Traditional Hanzi 1, James Heisig - 2025 Deck

Language

If you’re using Heisig’s book along with a mnemonic method for pronunciation, I think this the best deck there is, and what it was purposefully made for. It features many things to help you such as:

  • Color coded pinyin and audio files for correct pronunciation.

  • Links to the characters in Hanzicraft and the Pleco app, so you can see things like:
    • Detailed definitions
    • Stroke order
    • How frequently the character appears
    • How many times it appears in words or as a component
    • Character in example words and sentences
    • Alternate pronunciations

This deck will be particularly useful for people who want to follow Mandarin Blueprint’s Hanzi Movie Method, but are looking to learn traditional characters so are unable to use their course (Mandarin Blueprint only teaches simplified characters).

It will also be useful for those who want to follow the similar Marilyn Method.

This deck features the following:

FRONT CARD

  • A single character, with the option to click a hint to reveal the pinyin.

BACK CARD

  • The character’s keyword meaning (the one word attributed to the character in the Heisig book).
  • Other simple definitions of the character
  • Color-coded pinyin, easily showing which tone is used.
  • Simplified version of the character
  • Google speech audio file which autoplays correct pronunciation
  • Link to the character on Hanzicraft
  • Link to the character in Pleco (displays on mobile only).

NOTES ALSO INCLUDE:

  • ‘Frame Number’ corresponding to each character in the book for easy reference
  • ‘Primitive field’ describing Heisig’s visuals for components
  • ‘Personal Notes’ field to write personal mnemonics or add images
