Mastering Arabic Vocabulary

Language

A transcription of all entries of volume three of the Mastering Arabic series of glossaries for Modern Standard Arabic. To my knowledge, the alternatives that exist are either of the first two volumes, which aren't and don't pretend to be comprehensive, or of one of any of the several editions of the magisterial Hans-Wehr dictionary, which is far too expansive to be useful for an intermediate or lower-advanced student. Maybe the present deck also fails on one of those fronts, but my expectation is that it hits closer to the mark than any of the aforementioned.

Entries are formatted thus:

  • verbs: [ yaf'alu - fa'ala ]
  • nouns: [ (pl.) sg. ]

All diacritics are copied faithfully EXCEPT: a) default nominative nunation on all noun entries because obvious and irrelevant for anyone digesting actual spoken and written MSA; and b) those which are word-final due to the shortcomings of the word-processor. This last is ultimately mostly immaterial save for the select entries that require tanwin (double nunation), most of which are predictable to the advanced student (e.g., kasratain on word-final 'alif for adverb entries). Some, however, will not be predictable and any corrections brought forth will be greatly appreciated.
