Title Infrahyoid and Suprahyoid Muscles 4
OccludedImage
Clinical
Comment Comment: The thyrohyoid muscle is supplied by fibers of the 1st cervical nerve that happen to travel with the last, or hypoglossal, nerve (CN XII). The thyrohyoid muscle is also one of the infrahyoid or "strap"; muscles.
Origin Origin: Arises from the oblique line of the lamina of the thyroid cartilage.
Insertion Insertion: Attaches to the inferior border of the body and the greater horn of the hyoid bone.
Attachments
Innervation Innervation: C1 via the hypoglossal nerve (CN XII).
Actions Action: Depresses the hyoid bone and raises larynx during swallowing

Title Posterior Abdominal Wall: Internal View 1
OccludedImage
Clinical Clinical:The lumbocostal triangle (located just lateral and superior to the lateral arcuate ligament) is a non-muscular area between the costal and lumbar potions of the diaphragm. During trauma or with increased abdominal pressure, this portion of the diaphragm can become weakened and viscera can herniate into the thorax superiorly.
Comment Comment: Superiorly, the diaphragm forms the lateral arcuate ligament (lumbocostal arch) where it passes over the quadratus lumborum.
Origin Origin: Arises from the transverse processes of L3-5, the iliolumbar ligament, and the iliac crest.
Insertion Insertion: Attaches to the lower border of the last rib and the transverse processes of L1-3 vertebrae.
Attachments
Innervation Innervation: Subcostal nerve (T12) and L1-4 nerves
Actions Action: With the pelvis fixed, this muscle laterally flexes the lumbar vertebral column (trunk). It also fixes the 12th rib during inspiration. When both quadratus lumborum muscles act together, they can help extend the lumbar vertebral column.
