This is a rework of
4000 Essential English Words (all books) [en-en] M4R4M deck.
How this work differs from the original deck?
- It comes in two card types: one to learn definition from word and another to learn the word from the definition. This way you can activate your vocabulary.
- Definition To Word card types, ask you to type the answer. This way you can work on your spelling.
- A hint feature is added. So when you're stuck, you can click or tap on the Show Example button and it will give you a real example without showing the word.
- The class of words (verb, noun, etc) are included. It's especially useful for Definition To Word cards.
- IPA for American pronunciation are included. Sometimes, it's less vague than the actual audio.
- Many cards include the register of a word: formal, informal, approving, etc.
- Most of the cards include the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and notes are tagged based on them. So you'll not only know whether a specific usage of a word is advanced, intermediate, or basic, but also you can exercise just cards based on the level, thanks to tagging.
- More examples are added from the Cambridge learner dictionary. That includes concise hints to different grammatical uses.
- Rarely, some cards include Morphology, Etymology, Explanation, and Connected Works; helping you to master using them and learning them better. These fields mainly exist for completion by learner.
- In the original work, sometimes, definitions are not accurate, or are not in according with the usage in the example. Some definitions are enhanced in this work.
Is anything removed from the source deck?
Nothing except some duplicated notes and the definitions' audio. I personally found it time-consuming as I was more interested in just hearing the words' pronunciation and example audio. Technically, the definition audio is not removed from the deck; you can edit card type and uncomment Audio Definition line.
