Talk to Me in Korean (TTMIK) Supplement - 2022 Final

Language/Korean
********* FINAL UPDATE: Nov 2022 Since this deck's first upload, levels 1-3 have been updated significantly. If you've downloaded this deck before and are going to download it again to update, please see the very bottom of this description for a change log and the risks of re-downloading. *********************************************************** These cards cover Talk to Me in Korean (TTMIK) Levels 1, 2, and 3 from the free podcast and free PDFs. NOT included are the end of level reviews without audio and the "Word Builder" episodes. These Cards are NOT replacements for the source materials. A lot of nuance from the lessons is left out. ---------------- CONTENTS ---------------- Vocabulary: all vocabulary used in rule examples is included. Rules: all rules and nuances included. There are also fields dedicated to reminding you of rules that were recently covered but you may have forgotten. Examples and conversation: almost every example they say out loud is included even if it doesn't pertain to the lesson. If you're on a lesson and find a card that you didn't hear in the podcast, it's probably because I moved the that card from a different lesson. PDF-only examples were sometimes skipped. There are many more cards than the PDF examples. You don't have to review them all at once. Don't overwhelm yourself. Level and Lesson Tags: all Cards are tagged by level and lesson. For example, Level 1 Lesson 1 is "TTMIK-1.01". You sometimes see cards with more than one TTMIK tag. This is likely because: - The hosts were reviewing a past lesson and used a good example of a rule from a previous lesson. - They use a rule/conjugation that is introduced in a future lesson. - A very important vocab word is "introduced" in multiple lessons. It is tagged in multiple lessons so users don't miss it. Notation and Formatting: on the English cards you'll see formatting like {curly braces} and `back ticks.` These are used to help convey the Korean meaning since literal translations often don't work. Cards in Levels 1-2 have explanations for what they are. Level 3 cards do not. Phonetics/Romanization: are available until about halfway through Level 2, but are missing on a lot of the cards I added in the update process. The ones that are available are click-to-show so you don't accidentally see it and/or start to rely on it. Consider everything below this a user guide. I recommend using the Deck and coming back here when you have questions. -------------------------------------- VERIFY EVERY CARD AS YOU REVIEW -------------------------------------- Anki cards are best created on your own, but that can be difficult and time consuming, especially if you want audio clips. So, to make these cards your own you should: 1. Check the accuracy of every card you use. Spelling, rules, audio clip, everything. 2. Customize the cards. If the cards have too much information, delete the info. If the translations I use don't make sense to you, edit. If the way the rules are written don't make sense, edit. 3. Suspend or Delete unhelpful cards. ------------------------------------- WOW, these cards are overwhelming ------------------------------------- The explanations have a LOT of information in because I use Anki notes like a reference notebook. Cards also reference other non-TTMIK podcast materials, especially Darakwon's Korean Grammar in Use, so some information won't be found in the TTMIK podcast materials. The best solution may be to keep the audio clips and completely rewrite the cards as you go. -------------------------------------------------- HOW DO I SUSPEND CARDS UNTIL I REACH A LESSON? -------------------------------------------------- Every card has a Level+Lesson tag that looks like this: "TTMIK-1.01". This means "Talk to Me in Korean - Level 1, Lesson 1". 1. Go to "Browse" and Suspend all of the cards in the TTMIK Deck. They'll all be highlighted yellow. When you reach a lesson, let's say Level 1, Lesson 1: 2a. Go to Browse > left sidebar menu > find the lesson tag (TTMIK-1.01) **OR** 2b. Go to Browse > Search Bar > search by tag ("tag:TTMIK-1.01") 3. Select all of the cards for the lesson and Un-Suspend them. They will no longer be highlighted in yellow, and will immediately be ready for review. -------------------------- I CAN'T FIND A VOCAB WORD --------------------------- If you can't find a word used in an example use the deck search. It was likely introduced in an earlier lesson. There is a "vocabular" note type that you can use to narrow your search. note:Korean Detailed Vocabulary (with reversed card). -------------------- TEST YOUR LISTENING --------------------- Cards with Hangeul text are made so you can use them as audio tests, if you wish. They have a special light grey background so you know not to read the text if you're trying to do listening only. They also auto-play audio (replay with "R"). ---------------------------------------------- DOES THIS DECK WORK ON ANKIWEB AND THE APP? ---------------------------------------------- Mobile browser Ankiweb performs well; sometimes a slight lag in audio, even though the file sizes are tiny. I haven't tried in any versions of the official App. ************************************************* IF YOU ARE RE-DOWNLOADING THIS DECK ************************************************* The deck name hasn't changed, which is quite important to Anki's systems, but the note types have been so thoroughly changed since first upload, re-downloading may wipe out the first version version or create a set of duplicate cards. If this happens and you are savvy with Anki, you can revert your deck to a previous state using an backup (https://faqs.ankiweb.net/restoring-an-automatic-backup-recovering-from-data-loss.html). Change log: • Note Types: I THINK I renamed and edited the previous Note Types but I can't remember. Many new fields added and fields were reorganized • Card Style: previously, they were manually coded for "dark mode" with background and font settings. That's been removed so that it works best with Anki's own Dark Mode settings. • Fields: only a few fields are visible by default. Some fields now have special headers with "click to show/hide." If a field is empty, it won't appear. • Standardized how rules are explained. • Much more vocab • Many more examples. • Added simple banter and conversation between the hosts even if it's not relevant to the lesson. • Added references to other lessons when helpful. For example, when a card uses multiple conjugation rules, I reference (and sometimes tag) all lessons where the rules are introduced.
